A Dickens of a day

It was the best of days, it was the worst of days. It was a day of reason, it was a day of insanity.

Our day began with a visit to Wairarapa College. The kids had a great time test driving our trikes - a fun visit for us. Thanks guys.

Yes, a fine start, but by the end of that morning Rob had had a minor meltdown, earning himself the inaugural D***head of the Day Award by his team mates. The experiment switching the inner tubes paid off leaving the fellas feeling invincible - funny how fleeting some things are. Inexplicably, the going got extraordinarily difficult, and having no excuses left after the tube switching the lads started looking inward for reasons. Rob came to the conclusion that John's gear selection was to blame and expounded on his theory to all and sundry. Unfortunately for Rob and his theory, it turned out the lads had been climbing a deceptive accent without knowing it. Humble pie was eaten (writer's note: there had been some gearing issues too :-)).

So that was the worst of the cycling, and Rob's temporary insanity, over and done with. Once the boys dropped down the other side of Mt Bruce things changed radically and with a helpful little tail wind they clocked up 86 kms before a puncture halted their progress.

At time of writing, young Johnny is tucked up in bed sleeping like a baby, Karen is sequestered in her room fighting some kind of virus, and Rob is planning a relaxing (or not)soak in the bath.

Peace be upon you all.

Post script: There was an unfortunate incident this afternoon, when Rob, finding himself caught between Masterton and Eketahuna, took his lead from some nearby cows and laid a Rob pat in a field. While humiliating for Rob, the incident caused much mirth among his team mates.

Check out the new jackets!
